when you are cleaning up your hard drive…
I found some pictures I took of the Coronado Apt. Fire, that somehow never got published to my photostream.
Only two short years ago a historic building lit on fire a scant half block from where I work:

I remember this fire! It was too sad...I just adored that apartment complex...
Sadira - I'm sure this makes me a bad person, but I was really glad to see that building burn down. Too many drug-addict tenants through the years had left behind a very poorly maintained building. It was inevitable that tragedy would strike that address eventually. I expected it to be the rear staircase collapsing when somebody tried to use it.
Now I just wish that they would put something on that lot, instead of leaving it empty and desolate... :)
I once worked with a guy who owned that building. He said that it had survived the 1900 fire because the owner stood in the street with a gun and wouldn't let them use it as a back fire to stop the original fire. I have no idea if that's true, but it's an interesting story:)
Linda - well at least it was cared about at some point in it's history.
Near the end it was looking very... Jerome-ish. In that 'We should push it off the hill, but can't because it's *historic*' kind of way.
This is a great historic shot! I only wish I had taken a picture of it before it burned down, too late now. I never even thought of taking a photo of it, it was just there forever then one day it was gone. Hey, that's life.
Jarart - kind of like the Senator Drive-In sign. You never realize how photograph worthy it was until it disappeared. :-/
