Due to a whole gaggle of personal crap going on in my life right now the blog will be going dark for a little while. Hopefully to resume in a few weeks. Catch you all on the flip side:

Stop, think, cook.
Normally my meals come together as a dash of some far-off idea crashing into the reality of what is available in my kitchen and within my time frame. These ideas often go from planning to implementation in under five minutes. Elegant, this workflow is not.
Reading this post (or any other post on that blog) has made me start to realize that perhaps a bit more thought should go into my dinners. Perhaps I am missing out on a huge arena of food-gasmic awesomeness simply due to lack of a time investment in the planning stages.
I’m not sure why this concept is foreign to me. Maybe I just rush through my daily life too often, in a hurry to get arrive at a tomorrow that never quite gets here. But I’m starting to realize that there is more. More that can be had by a simple investment of more time in the planning process, slowing down and considering before acting.
Integrating this concept into my life is one of my new goals.
Because hi-speed video is so fun

Quote
From one of the books currently under my view
Plato by a goodly similitude declareth, why wise men refrain to meddle in the commonwealth. For when they see the people swarm into the streets, and daily wet to the skin with rain, and yet cannot persuade them to go out of the rain, they do keep themselves within their houses, seeing they cannot remedy the folly of the people.

City of Lost Angles
Sunday found me in town a bit early for the blogger meetup, so I ended up taking another trip through the drainage areas of Prescott, and I came up with another odd find. The City of Lost Angles:
Somebody has dragged a bunch of art up the waterways, nailed anchors into the concrete walls, and hung them up. I added my own little note to the sheet that was down there, snapped a few pics.
Much of the art was obviously not made by the draggers, but a few pieces were very hand-made:
And these pieces seemed more authentic than not:
While these cloth embossed(?) pieces screamed of a more thrift-store vibe:
And there was even one bit of aerosol art un these passages, which seemed to compliment the bright canvases well:
And now, for something completely different
JayZ and Radiohead, all mashed together into Jaydiohead. If you like Radiohead, but want a little more hip-hop in your musical diet then ‘Minty Fresh Beats’ is just what the doctor ordered.
Take a listen:
or download it free from jaydiohead.com, which also offers clean edits and instrumental versions!
Gotta love it. (via)
Blogger meetup
Just a quick note for anybody wondering – we did have a blogger meet-up on Sunday, but the turnout was a little less than expected.
Of course Julie was there, as was Toni. There were a few new faces as well. I got to meet Brad and Anna-Marie who are new to the blogging world, and somewhat new to the Prescott area as well. Great to meet you two!
And we also had a reader join us at the park. Jodie, her daughter, and even her dog came over and joined in the fun. They are also new to the area having recently moved here from New York.
A small group to be sure, but a very nice outing nonetheless. The weather was perfect for an outdoors picnic, the park was a great setting, the company and conversation were just as good as ever.
Hope to see you all again next month!
Chalk it up!
Walked by the Summit Bank parking lot on Sunday morning, and saw some of the chalk art that other bloggers have posted about. Here were my favorites:
Simple chalk, simple message:
The nerdy folks were representin’, as I saw this fruity star wars piece:
And not one:
But TWO Mario Brothers themed pieces:
One of the Mural Mice’s dogs was well portrayed in chalk:
As was this great gorilla:
But my most favorite of the day? This artistic representation of a church:

A look at the show
Cars and planes from the Legend Aviation’s grand opening on Saturday. First the cars.
Another look at the Plymouth Barracuda (with converted headlights):
An old Buick Century with fuzzy dice:
A Camaro Rally-Sport, which I believe belongs to Crystal who now works at the Mustang Grill:
An old Russian-badged Oldsmobile F-38:
A look down a GTX:
And then the planes, whose models I know not at all.
The Flaming Mistress was a crowd-pleaser with its fiery paint job:
A mean looking machine gun:
Which was affixed to the wing of Lt. Jim Brooks’ plane named February:
Just a random pic of a prop and plane:
An odd angle of a bi-plane:
Some badges from far-off lands:
And of course there were a few ladies at the show as well. For example, “Wild Honey” showed up:
As did Miss Kitty:
All told we putzed around for about an hour and a half, and had a great time!
See all 27 pictures in the Flickr Set.

Weekend stuff
Stuff going on this weekend:
- Saturday is the grand opening of the Legend Aviation building, which will also host a Pancake breakfast, air show, and car show. Me and D are planning on heading down early for an hour or two, after which I will be helping a friend re-landscape his yard.
- Sunday will see another Blogger get-together (YES!), this time at Flinn Park (check out GrannyJ’s blog for the full scoop), which I fully intend on attending. Bring your own food and drink, and hope to see you there. Time to assemble the troops is 1:00PM

I’ve been fairly uninspired in the photography sector lately, so here is a food-porn picture.
DaNece made me dinner the other night of Teriyaki marinated chicken breast, scalloped potatoes from scratch, peas, and bread. Yumm!:

All rolled up
Decided to try something new yesterday for dinner. I took a pork tenderloin, butterflyed it, added some cooked shallot, mushroom, bell pepper, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Then rolled it all up and set it on the grill:
It was accompanied by some brussels sprouts, wild rice, and french bread.
Great meal, but the meat wasn’t cooked properly. Medium heat for 20 minutes produced dry outside and under-cooked inside. Longer and lower next time, with something to provide fat in the roll (mascarpone cheese?) should resolve the issue.

A car show
How often does a young man get invited to a car show by his mom? Not very often. So when my dearest mum asked us to join her at Embry Riddle for just such an event I couldn’t refuse.
So the three of us headed over to the aeronautical university on Sunday, me with camera in hand.
The Mustangs were in attendance, both old:
And new:
And some kit cars powered by Fords:
There was some 80’s muscle in the form of a TransAm:
There was a stripped down, home-brewed roadster with lots of plates:
There were some rarities, like this AMC Matador:
which was nicknamed the ‘Flying Wombat’:
There was some Mopar Muscle:
in the form of a Dodge Challenger:
There was even a first generation Pontiac GTO!:
It was a decent car show, but overall it felt very disorganized. Cars were not arranged in any type of order. The show was spread over two parking lots, with one containing motorcycles and ‘import’ cars that looked mostly stock. The music was an odd mix of classic rock from the stage speakers and hip hop floating over from the aerosol artist area. It was still fun though.
Mom is hoping that the car show that Yavapai College is putting on next month will be better. I’ll definitely be showing up to take a few more snaps. :)

An aerosol artists shooting some flames at his canvas:
Not sure if it was just for show, or it there is a reason behind it…
UPDATE: Just found a video that I’m pretty sure is the same guy at work:
