Well I went ahead about bought a camera after my weird transaction with Broadway photo.
I ended up going for the Canon SD800is, for $288, which seemed like a pretty good deal. It's got lens-level image stabilization, facial recognition, and got pretty darn good reviews.
Now I just hope that nothing delays it from getting here before vacation.
