Pic of the day

On a dim and dreary morning every splash of color is appreciated:

flowers along the highway.

I love those flowers! They grow everywhere around here!

Brandy - first time I've stopped to take a gander at them. Definitely a very pretty bit o' vegetation. :)

I've never seen that brand of gallardia growing wild hereabouts! The plain yellow, yes, but not the re/yello. Isn't this weather weird?

GrannyJ - I'm no horticulturalist, so i didn't even realize that I was onto something special. There was a whole gaggle of them along the side of highway 89 by prescott lakes.

Is it changes in the weather that determines the color combination?

No, genes. I'm no hortoculturist, though I'm big on local wild flowers. I've a hunch that seeds were scattered by the proprietors of Prescott Lakes or maybe even ADOT, which has seeded highways elsewhere in the area (Calif. poppies at the far end of Prescott Valley & desert marigolds around Humboldt and Cordes Junction.

GrannyJ - I see. I think that's a great idea to have ADOT sprinkle seeds along the highways! :)
