Awesome story

About an Autistic girl who communicates eloquently through a computer:

"It is hard to be autistic because no one understands me. People look at me and assume I am dumb because I can't talk or I act differently than them. I think people get scared with things that look or seem different than them."

Wow...that is an amazing story. I am very interested in brain disorders (kind of a fun aside for me to delve into from time to time) and it is wonderful that someone has helped this girl to find the voice that she's had inside of her...Autism is a very interesting disorder. It's kind of incredible to me that there is always hope.

I just think it is incredible how society views people with disorders.

This story just goes to show how little we really know, and how stigmatized we make people feel simply because they are different.

I will admit that I do sometimes fall into the traps of typifying people, but I try to consciously avoid it whenever I can.
